Vitamins, copper, omega-3... Foods to choose from

What we put on our plates directly influences our health. And this is also true for your eyes! In order to preserve your visual capacity for as long as possible, certain vitamins, fatty acids and trace elements should be consumed daily.

Vitamins

Several types of vitamins contribute to the health of the eyes, as well as the mechanism of vision:

  • Vitamin A: contained in orange fruits and vegetables, fish or eggs, this vitamin helps protect the cornea and preserve the functioning of night vision.
  • Vitamin B2: if its benefits for the skin are recognized, those for the sight deserve to be revealed! Present in quantity in milk, avocado or even oilseeds, vitamin B2 reduces excessive watering and hypersensitivity to light.
  • Vitamin C: known for its antioxidant properties, this vitamin plays a preventive role against cataracts and delays the onset of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
  • Vitamin D: it prevents the appearance of myopia and DLMA. It is mainly found in cod liver oil, fatty fish, rice, eggs...
  • Vitamin E: naturally contained in coconuts and bananas, this vitamin slows down the aging of cells and eye structures.

Omega-3s

Also known as essential fatty acids, these particular fats are major components of the retina. As such, their regular consumption helps to reduce the risk of retinal detachment. Omega-3s are found in large quantities in fatty fish such as mackerel, sardines, tuna and salmon. But you can also find them in the form of food supplements in health food stores.

Copper

Of the many trace elements, copper is the most useful for eyesight. And for good reason: the cornea is naturally rich in copper! With its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action, this trace element regulates eye fatigue by directly activating blood circulation. You can moisturise your eyes by applying 2 drops of ciliary water - which contains ionised copper - in the morning and 2 drops in the evening in each eye. For proper application, place one drop in the eye, move your gaze from left to right, and then apply the second.

The right thing to do

In addition to a healthy and diversified diet, you can also take care of your eyes by practicing "palming". Intended to soothe tired eye structures, this exercise simply consists in resting your eyes! How does it work? By warming your hands together, then applying them to your eyes. Take care to keep your fingers in a circular arc, so as to form a sort of small cave to shelter each eye. Stay for 1 to 2 minutes. Another trick to reduce eye strain caused by computer screens: comfort glasses! Sold in opticians, these glasses have an anti blue light filter.
